I was not really a fan - for somebody tall like me, the bill of the cap made spotting low overheads difficult and it was useless when I had to wear a Sound Powered Phone Talker Helmet during GQ. I also didn't like getting my forehead spiked with the pin-back of my PO badge every few days...Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8281872119838034340.post-81420978873694242862022-07-20T09:15:50.351+12:002022-07-20T09:15:50.351+12:00The ball cap was the worst headwear! It didn't work under my Phone Talker Helmet when I was at GQ, even if I turned it backwards. I wore it because it was part of the work uniform, but I didn't like my PO badge pin-back spiking me in the head all the time...Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8281872119838034340.post-76424154732680192652017-09-15T09:51:04.184+12:002017-09-15T09:51:04.184+12:00As a lad I wore my father's Dixie Cup sailor&#...As a lad I wore my father's Dixie Cup sailor's hat (he was in the American navy during WWII). The good thing about it is it can be turned inside-out and it covers the head and ears and the rain runs down and off. I like all the different sailor's hats (except the baseball variety).Angelo's Papahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13988340459201968063noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8281872119838034340.post-36534375523576264042016-05-16T00:19:28.045+12:002016-05-16T00:19:28.045+12:00American sailors too used to wear a sailor cap lik...American sailors too used to wear a sailor cap like those of the other navies ("à la Donald Duck") till WWI (I think);
on the hand, italian Navy issued "Dixie Cup" caps as fatigue caps: for sure they were issued during WWII, and continued to be till the '90s; I don't know if they're still distributed now or have been substituted by a stupid, banal, ubiquitous baseball cap...
with the formal uniform, a normal sailor cap is worn; very similar to the british one, but without the side bow.

Ciao!

Paolo from ItalyAnonymousnoreply@blogger.com
