Many Christians supported the Reich, including the Pope (yes, the Pope!) and other religious leaders. Hitler claimed to believe in God as well as his own divine destiny. He frequently make references to God and Christianity in his speeches and called on God to protect and further the Reich. Barth had an uphill battle on his hands at the time.
