The German Series #21 - Mohammed Abu Dhees

Mohammed Abu  Dhees, alias Yaser Hassan, was born on 22/02/1964 in the town of Irbid, North Jordan although in Germany, he asked for asylum claiming that he was born in Hasmija, Iraq on 02/01/1966.

  

Mohammed Abu  Dhees, later the ringleader of the Dusseldorf Cell, enjoyed a "deep relationship of trust", according to his cell members, with Abu Musab al Zarqawi, whom he knew well from Jordan, probably from the mid 90^s’. 

In 09/2001, in the week of The 9/11, Mohammed Abu  Dhees traveled to Iran and met there Abu Musab al Zarqawi, who instructed him to commit terrorist attacks against Jewish or Israeli facilities in Germany with "his people", referring to the Al-Tawhid group that Mohammed Abu  Dhees led in Dusseldorf and became later the Dusseldorf cell. 

Mohammed Abu  Dhees was arrested on 04/23/2003 for charges that he planned, with other members of Dusseldorf Cell, to plant bombs in the Jewish museum in Berlin and a Jewish-owned discotheque or bar inDusseldorf. In his trial Mohammed Abu  Dhees, for an unknown reason, kept constantly his head covered with the traditional “Kafyia” and it was impossible to take a photo of him.

On 10/26/2005 Mohammed Abu  Dhees was convicted for plotting attacks and belonging to a terrorist organization and was sentenced to eight years in jail.
