There is much to say against tuna fishing in this day and age, but in recent history, it was a major industry for fishermen from the Mediterranean and the Basques.
The French dominions Saint Pierre and Miquelon (off the coast of Newfoundland and often named the 8th Basque Province) also saw a fair bit of tuna fishing (after whaling died out).
The two top photo's are by Rene Burri, tuna fishing from Favignana Island, Sicily, 1956.
The other photo's are of Basque fishermen, working on the Atlantic Ocean.
