Bergers Pyrénéens (Shepherds of the Pyrenees)
Most visitors of this blog know very well the origin of the beret; invented by the Pyreneen shepherds many centuries ago while tending their flocks on the high mountain summer pastures.
The shepherds would collect the loose wool, knit berets, felt them in the mountain streams and have headgear that would protect them from the fierce elements.
All this happened long ago, but still, in the 21st century, there are shepherds just like then, taking the sheep up to the high grasslands, accompanied by dogs and wearing a black beret.
The short video below is from Esco, on the Spanish (Aragon) side of the Pyrenees.
