The Red Hat |
Frans Slager (1876 - 1953 was, above all, a painter of
landscapes. His paintings bespeak the influence of the Barbizon School. He
found his subjects in the Netherlands, notably in the Brabant Campine and in
Belgium, France, Germany and Italy. The gothic Saint-John's Cathedral in
's-Hertogenbosch was a source of inspiration for him and was often a
characteristic element in his landscapes. |
Portret van Frans Slager by Annemarie MacGillavry-Verlinden |
Frans lived on the "Grote Hoeve" in Meerhout in
the Belgian Campine. In beautiful surroundings which he very much liked to
paint. His love for nature found him also involved in the establishment of the
"Brabant Landscape Foundation".
