Ernest Quost (1842 - 1931) was a French painter.
Quost was probably a pupil of Horace Aumont (1839-1864)
during his stay in Paris. He began at the Paris Salon in 1866, continued to
exhibit at the Salon of French Artists, became a medalist in 1880 and again in
1889 for the Universal Exhibition of Paris. Quost was knighted in the Legion of
Honour in 1883 and Officer in 1903.
Ernest Quost was typically a painter of Paris; the bustling
boulevards and dances. His flowers were appreciated by Monet and Van Gogh. In a
letter to Theo he refers to Quost as “father of roses".
