Petras Šmitas (1941 – 2023) was an art critic, art
historian, photographer, educator.
In 1975, he graduated from the Lithuanian State Institute of Arts (now Vilnius Academy of Arts), obtaining the qualification of an art critic.
He took up photography, immortalizing Klaipėda's art and cultural figures in his photographs, and organized photography exhibitions. The first P. Šmitas photography exhibition "Friends and Buddies" was held in 2001.
Since 1992, he has been a member of the Lithuanian Nationalists' Union.
