Frank Shatz and Erika Fabian

Frank Shatz and Erika Fabian last saw each other in 1953 when he rescued her from a prison in Slovakia, where she had been jailed for attempting to flee Communism. 65 years later, these cousins and Holocaust survivors reunited in New York City. Their story is a life-affirming and bittersweet tale of survival.

After losing contact for more than 60 years, an online search for Frank’s name by Fabian led to emails, phone calls, and finally a visit from her home in California to New York, where the two talked non-stop, catching up on their lives and and making the most of the precious time they have left.
