The genesis ofThe Truman Showwas aspec scriptby Niccol, inspired by an episode ofThe Twilight Zonecalled "Special Service".The original draft was more in tone of a science fictionthriller, with the story set in New York City.The majority of filming took place atSeaside, Florida, amaster-planned communitylocated in the Florida Panhandle.
