Pierrine Gaston Sacaze (1797 - 1893) was a shepherd and a botanist born in the hamlet of Bagès, above Béost in Béarn.
His work constitutes a monumental herbarium of the Pyrenees in thirteen volumes currently on deposit at the Pyrenean Botanical Conservatory of Bagnères-de-Bigorre ( Hautes-Pyrénées ).
To ensure the conservation of this very fragile herbarium, it is frozen at -30° for one month every five years and only researchers will be able to consult it.
