Hundreds of new recruits arrived at barracks across Germany on October 1 in the quarterly recruitment drive by the Bundeswehr, the German armed forces. Germany did away with conscription in 2011 and current Defense Minister Ursula von der Leyen recently launched an initiative to make the Bundeswehr a more attractive employer, especially for families and women.
