Musée des Troupes de Montagne

I have to thank my brother Emile for these pictures, taken during his visit of the Musée des Troupes de Montagne in Grenoble.
The museum showcases not only the history of the Chasseurs Alpins, but of all mountain troops (infantry, artillery, engineers, etc.).
The Museum of Mountain Troops was created on February 1, 1988 by decision of the Chief of Staff of the Army at the centenary of Mountain Troops.

The core of the collections was made up of objects collected in the halls of honor of the mountain units. It has been enriched for 30 years by numerous acquisitions and donations made by former Alpine people or their families.

The commemoration of the 80th anniversary of the First World War and especially the 50th anniversary of the Liberation contributes to strengthening this cultural project.

The Museum of Mountain Troops is located in the casemated rooms of Fort de la Bastille.

The Museum is directed by a museum director appointed from among the senior officers of the General Staff.

A curator, an arms officer trained at the National Heritage Institute, is in charge of the enhancement of the collections, cultural mediation, exhibitions and scientific research related to the management of the Heritage Library of the 27th BIM and its center of archives.
