Boris Paichadze

Boris Paichadze (1915 –1990) was a Georgian footballer, who played for FC Dinamo Tbilisi. The largest stadium in Georgia, the Boris Paichadze Stadium in Tbilisi, is named after him.

In 2001, he was voted the best Georgian football player of the 20th century.

Paichadze declared that he had a close relationship with infamous Soviet politician Lavrentiy Beria, Stalin’s head of the NKVD. Beria, who was a fan of Dinamo, prevented Paichadze from moving to Spartak Moscow, that was very keen to sign Paichadze during his peak years.

Vakhushti Kotetishvili

Vakhushti Kotetishvili (1935 – 2008) was an outstanding poet, translator and critic. Educated as an Iranian scholar, most of his academic work is devoted to Persian poetry, though his interests were much wider. His best-known translations are poetic works of Omar Khayyam, Jami, Hafez and others. He also translated German, Russian and Spanish poetry.

Most of his poems were published in a literary magazine Arili. At various times he was awarded French and Austrian literary prizes. For his contribution to the development of Georgian literature, he was awarded with the prize Saba.

The autobiographical book My Life, No Longer Than a Minute, talks about Vakhushti Kotetishvili’s life, reminding readers of various stories, as well as disclosing unknown facts and experiences related to his interesting life.

 There are several words in Georgian that denote ‘life’, tsutisopeli being one of them, literally meaning ‘life no longer than a minute’.

Dzongsar Jamyang Khyentse Rinpoche

Dzongsar Jamyang Khyentse Rinpoche (1961), also known as Khyentse Norbu, is a Tibetan/Bhutanese lama, filmmaker, and writer. His four major films are The Cup (1999), Travellers and Magicians (2003), Vara: A Blessing (2013), and Hema Hema: Sing Me a Song While I Wait (2017).

He is the author of What Makes You Not a Buddhist (2007) and many other non-fiction works about Tibetan Buddhism.

Khyentse Norbu appeared in and, as a consultant "supervised every ritual and gesture performed by Tibetan monks," in Bernardo Bertolucci's 1993 film Little Buddha.

He appears in the 2009 documentary Tulku, where he discusses Buddhism and his views on the tulku phenomenon.

Owen Jones

Doctoral research by University of Otago scientist and boinero Owen Jones is shedding light on the mysteries of memory formation and communication within brain cells.

His research findings are adding to growing scientific support for using astrocytes - star-shaped cells in the brain - as therapeutic targets to counter the effect of Alzheimer's disease and other related diseases.

Arno Hintjens

Arnold Charles Ernest Hintjens (1949), better known by his stage name Arno, is a Belgian artist born in Ostend. He was the frontman of TC Matic, one of the best-known Belgian bands of the 1980s. Since the band split in 1986 he has had a solo career.

Arno sings in a mixture of English, French, Dutch and his Ostend dialect. After going solo, he released more than a dozen albums during a successful career. In 2002 he received the title "Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres" (Knight in the Arts and Literature) of the French government.

In the film Camping Cosmos he played the homosexual lifeguard Harry who does not pay attention to Lolo Ferrari who is incarnating a caricature of Pamela Anderson.

Honor McKellar

At Honor McKellar's 100th birthday last year, celebrated NZ opera singer Jonathan Lemalu yesterday emphasised the crucial role of teacher Honor McKellar in his singing career.

She was honoured as a former New Zealand mezzo-soprano opera singer, as the University of Otago’s first executant lecturer in voice (1970-85) and for her overall influence on New Zealand music.

She has long played a key role in the Dunedin Performing Arts Competitions Society and its senior vocal festival.

In a prerecorded video link, Lemalu paid tribute to Miss McKellar as a very professional singer and teacher who had helped him to focus, and improve himself.

Katharina Caroline "Caro" Daur (1995) is a German fashion blogger and model.

She began fashion blogging in 2014, launching CaroDaur.com. Since the start of her blog, she has become a notable international fashion influencer. Through her blog, she has partnered with companies like Adidas, Dolce & Gabbana, Fendi or Valentino. She also worked on global campaigns for MAC Cosmetics, APM, and Dolce & Gabbana.

In 2015 she was a recipient of the New Faces Award by Bunte in the fashion digital category. In May 2017 she was honored as an Idol of the Year at the About You Awards.

Man Ray (born Emmanuel Radnitzky; 1890 –1976) was an American visual artist who spent most of his career in Paris. 

He was a significant contributor to the Dada and Surrealist movements, although his ties to each were informal. 

He produced major works in a variety of media but considered himself a painter above all. He was best known for his pioneering photography, and he was a renowned fashion and portrait photographer. 

Man Ray is also noted for his work with photograms, which he called "rayographs" in reference to himself.

Das Gäßchen zum Paradies (The Alley to Paradise) is a Czechoslovak-German melodrama from 1936 directed by Martin Frič.

Hans Moser plays the ruthless dog catcher Haslinger, who changes his ways through meeting the orphan boy Peter, played by Peter Bosse, which ultimately leads to both fates turning for the better.

The film is the German version of the original Czech version Ulička v Ráji.

Actor, presenter and journalist Peter Bosse (1931) was a popular child star of the German cinema in the 1930s. The boy with his cheeky face made 28 films.
