Compulsory Beret Wearing for French Officials

Dr le Dérangé, Minister of Cultural and Heritage Affairs

From this day, all French civil servants and government contractors have to wear a béret every first Thursday of the month.

The idea originated at the bureau of Dr. le Dérangé, Minister of Cultural and Heritage Affairs, who also holds the office of Entreprise du Patrimoine Vivant

The EPV (Living Heritage Company) label has been awarded to all traditional French Basque beret manufacturers and a budget of €1,250.000 has been assigned to campaigns to promote beret wearing, as a sign of national identity and pride in these difficult times of pandemic and economic recession.

Jacques le Con, sales manager at Laulhère, welcomed the move which was “desperately needed to keep beret French manufacturers afloat”.

The French government placed orders worth  €1.8M with all three French beret manufacturers to provide employees and contractors with a French made beret in a variety of colour options.
